Monrovia Train Depot

It was an honor to be part of the Historic Santa Fe Depot restoration project. The Santa Fe Depot was built in 1926 and was in service until 1972. After 1972 the building sat for 45 years, vacant and in disarray, it was then purchased by the City of Monrovia in 2013 who then choose Samuelson & Fetter as the developer of the project in 2015.

Jorgensen Reeve was chosen as General Contractor for its long-standing relationship with Samuelson & Fetter and the city. Along with Undisclosable, the architectural firm, the concept & design would take form to become the prodigious structure it is today. Much of the success of the project is found in the details. The majority of the replication process took place onsite, with infield casting, coloring and restoration.

Everything from the columns, plaster finishes, original metal finishes, tile & base, and roofing tiles were replicated to match the original building. Modern finishes include the steel canopy with transparent roof panels, custom “Texston” plaster finishes for the walls & countertops, and modern mechanical and lighting systems.  The Santa Fe Depot both preserves its history as well as fits the aesthetic of modern day Monrovia.

This historic building will serve as the centerpiece to the new Monrovia Station Square. The interior of the depot is slated to become a full-service restaurant space with seating for 190 patrons.
